From the NY Post's Gimme Shelter:
--Actor/musician Steven Van Zandt, who is a member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, and his wife, Maureen, have bid on a three-bedroom, three-bath penthouse in a former church on West Fourth Street. The apartment with stained glass windows has an asking price of $5.99 million.
--Actress Frances McDormand and her filmmaker husband Joel Coen have listed their Hudson Valley hideaway. The home on a country road in the town of Esopus, NY has three bedrooms, a screened porch and an old-fashioned kitchen. It is listed at $895,000. --The Russian Federation have purchased one of Manhattan's pricier townhouses for $35 million. The 25-foot-wide residence at 36 E. 75th St. was built in 1893 and has six bedrooms.
--The price has dropped on the 2005 Hamptons Cottages & Gardens Idea House. Hamptons C&G publisher Richard Ekstract and his wife, Eileen, have lowered the price of their eight-bedroom, 7,500-square-foot Bridgehampton mansion on 3.7 gated acres. It is our estate of the day later today.

--Tobey Maguire has bought a 0.93-acre vacant parcel in Brentwood.
--Comedian Carlos Mencia has purchased actor Eddie Cibrian's Encino mansion which was listed at $4.395 million. Cibrian has paid $2.5 million for a mansion in Calabasas.
--Actor John Leguizamo has paid $5,750,000 for a town house in Manhattan's Washington Square area.
--Turns out that Mark Harmon did not buy a new place in Malibu, it went to someone else with a similar name.

Dr. Marlene Krauss and her husband, Dr. Zachary Berk have paid $7.65 million for the triplex penthouse at the Claremont House, a 1980's-era condo on East 72nd Street between Park and Madison avenues. It was our estate of the day in December 2006 when it was listed at $8.995 million. The couple own the floor below the penthouse, and are combining the two units into a four-level apartment. --As the Real Estalker Mama previously reported, the movie producer Jon Peters is asking $39.5 million for four adjoining Beverly Hills parcels he bought in 1996 but never fully developed. The listing is here.
--Limited Brands marketing chief Ed Razek has bought an oceanfront villa in the Turks & Caicos. Thetvilla is in Dellis Cay, a 560-acre, residential development being constructed on a private island with a master plan by Pritzker prize-winning architect Zaha Hadid.
--Baseball player Steve Finley, has trimmed 3.4 acres from his home for sale and reduced the price to $13.95 million. The listing is on the Barry Estates website.

Winston's Malibu Wonder

I have no idea who Stan Winston is but I think I'm in love. Celebrity Big Time Listings picked up on the Wall Street Journal's Private Properties piece (no link online yet) on Winston's Malibu beach house which is listed at $11.95 million. Turns out Winston is an esteemed makeup and special effects artist who has nabbed himself four Oscars in the course of his long career and he has created one stunning Malibu getaway. The home website calls it the Perfect Beach House. They aren't kidding although this home doesn't really have a beach house vibe. This home is drop-dead, smack-yourself-in-the-face gorgeous. The art in the place
doesn't exactly give me the warm fuzzies but everything else is so spot on. I could even learn to love the rather institutional second bathroom. The home is cheek by jowl with other homes clustered on the beach and you don't get a pool, just a secluded outdoor hot tub which offers privacy but not much of a view.

How To Blow Your Bonus: Metal Shutter Houses in Chelsea, NY

The Metal Shutter Houses in the West Chelsea of New York City take a look usually seen when storefronts close down for the evening and roll down metal garage-door-like shutters and makes it high end. The nine-unit condo project designed by Japan's Shigeru Ban was inspired by the metal shutters on industrial buildings. The mechanized shutters have horizontal perforated slats that allow the resident to see out when closed but block out the city's prying eyes. When the shutter rolls up it reveals a terrace which is separated from double-height living rooms by windows that can also be raised to create one large indoor/outdoor space.The units range from three-bedroom, 1,950-square-foot duplexes with terraces to four-bedroom, 2,700-square-foot duplexes with terraces and one four-bedroom duplex penthouse which has 3,319 square feet and 1,963 square feet of outdoor space including private roof deck. The units start at $3.6 million and the penthouse, shown above, is listed at $10.5 million.

--News anchor Kaity Tong and her husband, Patrick Callahan, have been living at the Gramercy Park Hotel after their Chelsea apartment was invaded by mold that may have come from a construction site next door.
--Real-estate marketing icon Louise Sunshine has listed her two-bedroom West Palm Beach condo at Trump Plaza for $1.399 million.

--Vera Wang has paid $23.1 million to the estate of her late father Cheng Ching Wang for his duplex at 740 Park.
--Jerry Moss, co-founder of A&M Records, has paid $9,472,597.13 for an eighth-floor Plaza apartment.
--Two co-ops at The Ritz Tower at 465 Park Avenue that belong to late oil man Warren Alpert have sold for relatively small amounts. A two-bedroom apartment went for $1.4 million, city records show, and a fourth-floor studio/storage space sold for $175,000. Before his death he gave $100 million to Brown University's medical school.
--Celebrity photo retoucher Pascal Dangin paid $5.8 million this month for a townhouse at 281 West Fourth Street, in the West Village brownstone dreamland near West 11th Street.

--Yves Saint Laurent and his business partner, Pierre Berge, have listed their estate in France's Normandy region again for less money and less acreage. The property, now about 52 acres, is for sale at €12.5 million, or about $17.8 million. The entire 67-acre Deauville estate was first listed more than two years ago for €20 million, then withdrawn last year. In 2005, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were rumored to be purchasing the home.
--Photographer and painter Richard Prince paid $9.7 million last month for a 1.9-acre property of his neighbor Diane Fuhrmann in Wainscott, N.Y., bringing his property to about 3.2 acres.The new land has a five-bedroom house.
--Screenwriter Peter Griffiths sold his Los Angeles house last month for close to its $29.5 million asking price.

--Director/producer Hal Prince and his daughter Daisy Chaplin Prince have sold their five-story townhouse at 124 East 64th Street for $8.8 million. The two reportedly bought another Manhattan place together last year, paying just under $3 million.
--Roger Goodell, the new commissioner of the National Football League, and wife Jane Skinner, a Fox News daytime anchor have sold their seven-room co-op at 180 East End Avenue late last month for $2.725 million.
--The 20,000-square-foot Beaux-Arts townhouse that belonged to porn magnate Bob Guccione has entered its 13th month on the market and is listed at $59 million but still hasn't gone to contract.

--Avril Lavigne and her husband, Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley, have bought a Bel-Air home for about $9.5 million. It was previously reported that her Beverly Hills Post Office home is for sale.
--Tyler Perry has put his Malibu beachfront home on the market at $5.35 million. The listing for the three-level contemporary on Pacific Coast Highway is here.
-The Lake Arrowhead retreat of Walter Francis O'Malley, the onetime L.A. Dodgers owner, has been sold for close to $1.7 million.
--Blake Masters, creator of Showtime's new series "Brotherhood," and his wife, Melissa, a talent agent at the Paul Kohner Agency, have purchased the Beachwood Canyon home of Laurie McCarthy, executive producer of the NBC series "Windfall" for slightly more than $1.5 million.
--NBA star Mike Miller of the Memphis Grizzlies has put the home he bought at Lake Sherwood in December for $6.56 million. He never moved in and has put the house back on the market at close to $8 million.
